About Band

Apollo are a powerful four-piece guitar band from Tamworth in the Midlands .  They blend Mod and Rock sounds and draw on influences as diverse as the 60’s English Blues Explosion, American hardcore and grunge from the early 1990’s, Britpop, Indie and a range of more contemporary genres.  A description of the sound is instantly difficult, although commentators have suggested that within the repertoire exists more than a hint of Zeppelin, The Who, Chilli Peppers and the Stone Roses.  The band have a reputation for being loud, melodic, tight and thoroughly entertaining.  The key to Apollo is great original material, and an unforgettable night out, nothing more, nothing less…..

Formed in a suburban garage in Two Gates, during the cold winter of 2004, Apollo came together for their first musical adventures attracting the immediate attention of elderly neighbours, confused passers-by and startled local pets.  Guitarist Mick Fenton and Paul (Doc) Hudson teamed up with Burgundy ’s Christian Lang on drums, jammed to keep warm and drank beers to pass the time.  A month later they were joined by friend and local singer-songwriter Zak Edwards and Apollo was born.  With the resulting combination of influences and approaches, the band were instantly able to pull together a convincing set of original songs and were performing in local venues in Birmingham and Tamworth in the summer of 2004.  Within the space of a few months, the band were attracting enthusiastic responses from audiences across the Midlands and building a loyal following.  Following Christian’s return to in December 2005, the band recruited Sub Tonic drummer Paul Byrne.  Paul introduced a strong percussive edge to the sound and an unmissable spectacle to the live performance.  In 2005 the band featured on the unsigned slot of the popular Kerrang FM’s Ugly Phil breakfast show, and put on sell-out shows at Tamworth ’s Bullit.  They in addition made the finals of the Nationwide Band Idol competition based at JBs in Dudley .

Apollo have crammed a massive amount of gigs, recording and exposure into a short amount of time and created a unique sound which has pleased and entertained audiences wherever they have played. The band have become a firm feature on Birmingham’s live music circuit and regularly play the city’s top venues including the Actress and Bishop, Bar Academy, The Sunflower Lounge, and most recently The Barfly.

Several fine studio recordings have been cut, including the Live Zoo Sessions EP in 2005 and the more recent “M” EP released in 2006.
