About Band

BareBones and Cabaret are a collection of country gentlemen assembled together with the aim of making music that is soulful, melancholic and uplifting (not an anarchism in terms, just look at Brian Wilson or Marvin Gaye). We are from all over the world, but, as fate dictates, we have all ended up in Tauranga, New Zealand; where a dearth of like minded souls has forced us to assemble under the banner of BareBones and Cabaret.

Our influences are quite varied, I guess. In fact we even polarise each other at times. However, here is a truncated list on the various members influences that may spin on their turntables from time-to-time: Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Graham Nash, The Smiths, Ronnie Lane, Wilco, Calexico, The Specials, The Velvet Underground, Orange Juice, Ryan Adams, Motown, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Byrds, CSN, Television, Can, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Wire, The Clash.

These people are good, so are we, so are you. Let’s not forget that.

We are hoping to get a self-financed Ep/Lp out by the end of the year; but, look, if you’re a label and want to sign us – please do. We have been touring extensively around the country and have been writing at a furious rate (well Mathew our singer has been). Now what we need, as Paul McCartney once sang, is a little luck…
