.. In the music business, you have to have a certain level of originality to stick out in people's minds, and BENIGN does just that. Formed in 2001 by Jason Vessar, whose face melting riffs combined with off beat rhythms and catchy head bobbing hooks attracted several musicians with like minds over the course of the next few years. When Paul Schopfer came into the lineup, and added his technical basslines and crazy onstage antics, it was a perfect fit, and with the addition of Ed Bedell, whose thundering beats bring all of the insanity together, it was just a matter of finding a vocalist who had the versatility to keep up with the ever evolving brutal sound of BENIGN. Enter Kyle McCarty in 2005, who found that BENIGN's style allowed him to push the envelope in the most extreme ways possible. His ear-shattering screams and primal growls combined with intense melodic hooks and commanding stage presence compliment and complete the powerhouse that is BENIGN. This inspiring foursome is the epitome of what independent bands strive to be, you'll find them busy playing dates all over the Western U.S., opening for several major national touring bands, and organizing the biggest independent metal festival in the Northwest, the Annual Metal Campout as well as breaking down barriers in their hometown of Spokane, WA. Their song "I Digress" is in the current rotation on the local rock station Rock 94.5 fm. and they are quickly making a name for themselves in the regional underground metal scene.
