About Artist

I started playing the guitar and singing when I was five.  My first guitar was a $15 dollar 6-string my mom bought me from Western Auto; the strings were about an inch off the neck and I used to play it until my fingers bled.  I wrote my first song when I was 16; thought it was a hit...didn't know shit back then!  I've learned now that a "hit" is in the eyes (or rather) ears of the beholder.  The music business is extremely opinionated...opinions are just like you know what, everyone has one!  One person might listen to your work and tell you it sucks, while another person might think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Rejection is something you have to learn to live with.  If you can't learn to live with it, oh well...you'll just be listening to your own creations and thinking what a fine songwriter you are.  I concentrate on the song writing aspect of the music nowadays.  Sure, I used to have fantasies about  making it big, being a big star, touring, performing in front of thousands.  I did front my own band (Firewater) for years and played quiet a few gigs (the photo is of me and my band opening for Molly Hatchett).  I quite playing in clubs due to the second-hand cigarette smoke, the drunks, and the pain in the ass of dealing with musicians who didn't want to practice, learn new material, and give it all they had.  I moved to middle Tennessee back in 1993 in order to be closer to the hub of the country music industry.  While I haven't had the good fortune (yet) to have a cut, I have managed to get my foot in the door.  That's the biggest part of it all; getting your foot in the door with "legitimate" music industry professionals who can make it happen, not just blow hot air up your ass!  For every artist/songwriter who comes to Nashville hoping to make it big, there's 3 or 4 con-artists eagerly awaiting your arrival.  They'll tell you just what your eager, unexperienced ears want to hear to get you on their side, then they'll drop the hammer on you.  If your lucky, you might only get taken for a thousand dollars or so.  If you're unlucky, you'll lose everything.  Does that sound like experience talking?  You bet it is.  Bottom line:  I'm a songwriter, that's what I do.  If you like what I do, then let me know.  If you're interested in taking it another step, let me know.  If you think you might want to co-write, let me know.  If you're full of hot air, don't waste my time!
