About Band
"Some people play rock n' roll, some people ARE rock n' roll."
-Chris Real
These are words one hears out of Christofur Real a lot.
Now, with his debut record "Little Addictions" in production, the rest of the world can finally understand what the hell he means by that.
Christofur Real comes by his rock n' roll roots honestly. As the son of a full time musician, while his school mates were going away to camp during summer vacation, Real was spending that time in bars and theatres across Canada on tour with his father. The music bug was bound to bite and bite hard.
Real picked up his first guitar at the not so tender age of 15, in 1994 at the height of grunge. Grunge didn't really speak to Real the way it did the rest of his generation, and Chris spent the bulk of his time learning Slash and Joe Perry licks - influences you can still hear in his lead work today.
As he began to become interested in songwriting, Real discovered the likes of The Cars and Elvis Costello et al, mixed them with a healthy dose of his love of the punk rock sound, and found what every songwriter dreams of finding... his own style.
Christofur's first successes in 'the biz' came as the primary songwriter and lead guitar player for Canadian band Another Wave. Another Wave certainly made a 'dent' in the Canadian music scene, producing a couple EP's and a full length effort, "Life's A Cherry" which spawned a single and video for a song called "-9-", which received airplay on both radio and on Canada's video music station, MuchMusic.
After Another Wave, Real formed his next project, SuperJuice, who recorded a full length of their own, "Appetite For Dysfunction", and promoted it across Canada playing shows with the likes of Robin Black, Jet Set Satellite, Default, Lukas Rossi, and Oversoul.
Eventually, Real decided the middle of the stage (and not the middle of the road) was where he belonged, as he wanted to sing the songs he was writing, and let the 'rock star' inside him jump out at people.
"The Others"
Chris Real's solo project he has dubbed 'Chris Real (and the others)', and is currently in the process of recording a debut disc, to be called "Little Addictions", a concept record of sorts, detailing the literal highs and lows of life in our day and age. "The Others" is a reference to the myriad of western Canadian talent making a cameo on the record, as well as to the belief Real holds that his lyrics speak not just for himself, but also for anyone and everyone trying to make sense of themselves and the world around them.
Stay tuned.
Hey hey, my my...
