About Band
CIVILIAN DEATH MACHINE was formed in the Summer of 1987 by founding member, guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter Meredith Rollo.
Meredith put the band together with friends Stephan Nachtigahl and Jeff Faubert. The three began performing at small gigs entertaining the Friday and Saturday night crowds. Performing mainly REM, Who, RAMONES, Small Faces and Yardbird cover songs, the band quickly moved into performing their own self-penned compositions.
Between covers, CDM would insert their own compositions and, as Meredith said, "Nobody could really tell the difference between an original and a cover song -as most of the people at the shows were too busy getting hammered!"
Meredith began writing more personal compositions based on his young perceptions of the world. And as the years went on, the naive perceptions left and the reality of life began more and more infiltrating into the lyrics with darker overtones.
The band played together from 1987, for a little over 4 1/2 years and eventually called it quits in early 1992 -at a time when the "Seattle Revolution" was breaking ground throughout the land and into mainstream radio. Never reaching any fame didn't bother the band members, as music gave way to family obligations and commitments.
And as the 20th Anniversary of the Civilian Death Machine's formation beckons, the band is busy re-recording their early compositions, along with some newer tracks, to be released independently later in the year.
