====================================================

Clinker was formed by Peter Jordan in 1999. Originally all recorded by Peter himself, its gradually turned into the current form of a full four piece band.

6 albums and 2 Eps are available for download for free.

Peter Jordan (founder of Opera Dog Productions) has been creating original tunes with unforgettable melodies and unique production for the past decade. Previously Peter had been in several other bands, including Kent based indie band Reg Varney Trio with drummer Marcus Moir and guitarist Sean Stevens.  Marcus now drums with Clinker and even Sean had a brief stay.

Peter called himself as Clinker after a game of computer golf where he was Clive Langer (Clinker) and his friend Dave was Anders Forsbrand (Foreskin Technique).  He then decided that Clinker was what he was going to call his project.  The name, through the stream of conscious writing of the first Clinker collection “Clinker Schminker”, took on many different meanings…too many to mention here.

The first album of “Clinker Schminker” was completed in 1999, followed by “Up Chunky!” in 2000. Meanwhile, after Peter produced an album for The Nips “Cheeky” in 2001, Tomoko Matsumoto gradually got more involved in Clinker as a recording musician.

They recorded “The Truth About Nuts” in 2002 and then took a 3 year break from Clinker returning to Opera Dog.

In 2005 Clinker came back with two albums “IYAM WOT IYAM 1 & 2”. Despite recording several albums, Clinker was just recording band until 2006.

Clinker wanted to gig, but they struggled to find the right people and would rather have good friends around him than just anybody.

He decided, due to a reignited interest in his past, to reform Reg Verney Trio for a one off gig.  Re-union rehearsals started and they got back into playing together again,  but gradually he realised it was too time consuming, Clinker was being neglected and the reunited trio expanded to a five piece and become Clinker, the live band. A bass player Joe Weston, long time friend of Peter’s who contributed to the “Up Chunky!” album, joined Tomoko (keyboards) as the additional members.

This was late 2006 and a new album was almost complete “When I Grow Up I Wanna Be A Space Cadet”(which was eventually released in late 2007).

2007 was beset with various problems which slowed progress with the live band.  First Sean left for the family life which led to Tomoko taking over his part, then Joe had serious personal problems which meant rehearsals were put on hold for a while.  In the meantime, influenced by the rehearsals Clinker recorded a 6th album “Clinker” which included brand new tunes and some re-recorded ones from previous albums.

Finally, Clinker played their first gig at Water Rats, Kings Cross, London on 17th November 2007, where Bob Dylan made his first UK appearance back in 1961.  More successful gigs followed.  Sadly Joe Weston had to leave the band, due to dayjob work pressures, and a replacement was found in Benedikt Blume .

This is the current formation as a 4 piece band.

Recordings and Media

The recordings in the early years (1998-2002) is very rough due to the lack of technology and knowledge of how to use it.  At the time Peter was recording a song using an operator microphone and Sound Recorder which comes with Windows computer for free, that was all mono recording. However, his great songwriting and lyrics are still clearly shown in those recording.

By the recording “The Truth About Nuts”, “IYAM WOT IYAM 1&2”, Clinker guradually found better technology to work with.

Their “When I Grow Up I Wanna Be A Space Cadet” album, described by one scribe as a psychedelic masterpiece, was recorded mostly in 2006. This album was more of a band creation, with strong contributions from Sean (guitar/songwriting) and Marcus (drums). Also, it it came at a time the band discovered a new future as a multi-media band.

Tomoko started directing videos for the band, including “Interferron”, “7th Heaven”, “Isolation”, “Matilda Mother” and ”Stop!” from this album and started experimenting with 5.1 surround sound culminating in a multi channel DVD of the album produced by Peter and Tomoko.

Influences

“Clinker”, is deeply influenced by The Beatles, PiL, My Bloody Valentine, Massive Attack and Eno etc.

They could be seen as a Psychedelic band in the vein of Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd or  The Boo Radleys. Through the strong melodies and Peter Jordan’s unique songwriting style and lyrics, they attract fans with varied tastes in music.
