What's good, my name is D'ALEXANDER and i'm the ex-lead-singer of first and only Swiss R&B/Pop-Group 4TONITE (See my pics), with whom i spent the most incredible 9 years of my life...it's was a rocky, rollercoaster-ride, we gathered many experiences in the music business, rocked a lot of crowds, opened for artists such as 112, LUMIDEE and SOLANGE KNOWLES, got love from funk legends KOOL & THE GANG, famous European dance act 2UNLIMITED, and R&B/Acappella group NATURALLY 7 (Europes version of "Take 6"), met a lot of people and saw many sides of this scandalous industry (which really ain't at all as shiny as it seems from the outside lookin in)...but hey, i wouldn't trade it all for anything in this world!!
The reason why i left the group and why we split up in May 2005, was due to management and label issues...basically, i just ain't cool with bein' a f***in' puppet and promoted as something that i'm not...i just gotta keep it real, follow my heart and do what I feel is good for me!!! This is why i've finally started my own solo-project as D'ALEXANDER on Switzerland's premiere Hip-Hop Label PW-RECORDS. People often ask me how i describe my style of music - good question! If i were to call it straight R&B, i'd be lying. I define it as my own personal interpretation of "RADIO-FRIENDLY POP MELODIES WITH A STRONG R&B INFLUENCE, COMBINED WITH AN OBVIOUS LOVE AND RESPECT FOR HIP-HOP". Let's face it, i don't have the "blackest" of voices, and i'm fully aware of that...i mean, look at me...i'm whiter than the snow in the Swiss alps, hahahaha :-) But i'm doing what i love and i love what i do and a lot of people seem to dig my style, so that's all that matters to me! People who know me will tell you that i'm actually quite a sensitive, fun and open guy behind all this gangsta-exterior and that's exactly what i want to express through my music. But i'm everything BUT a so-called "thug", what can i say, i guess i'm just a sucker for the Hip-Hop culture...so this ain't just a cheap image thing, THIS IS REALLY ME. I live, breathe and shit Black Music, i was raised with it and it's been my passion ever since i was 12 years old. I've always been very active on the scene, also as a DJ and event manager, so i feel i have the right to differ myself from your average 50 Cent-worshipping teenager and represent what i stand for. But uuuhhmm...back to my music: i'm someone who believes in and respects true artistry, so yes, i write and (co-) produce my own music and what i write about is very personal, all based on my own experiences. If it ain't real, it ain't D'ALEXANDER!
So people, give me a listen, i'd love to hear your honest feedback! The song "Now Ya Know" was my first track, it was featured on several R&B mixtapes as an exclusive over here in Switzerland and Germany and it's basically my personal take on the music industry and negative people, the so-called "haters" and "non-believers"...or false, jealous people in general who just don't wish you well. Every artist goes through it, but i just had to speak it out, ya know? ;-) I've got some more heat comin' up real soon and some great people backin' me up, for example: IRVING WASHINGTON III (of 90's R&B group "PORTRAIT"), AARON GILLESPIE (Producer / Manager of upcoming R&B singer "JC", Bad Boy South), UK production team PHRASED DIFFERENTLY (Craig David, Lemar), Swiss top-producer MARSBEATS and my label PW RECORDS' very own legendary producer JAKEBEATZ, who is responsible for some of the hottest and renowned Swiss Hip-Hop releases.
Until the rest of my solo-stuff is ready for show, just check out a few tracks I did with my boys 4TONITE. The first track "Whats Up" was penned and co-produced by myself, and the 2nd track "Nobody Knows" is the result of what happens, when other producers are in control of your shit and throw you out into the wilderness with a half-assed product!!!
