About Artist
Hi! I'm Debrah Kay. I am an singer/songwriter/entertainer. I am originally from Mesquite, TX, but I have lived just north of Nashville for about 12 years now. I sing both country and southern rock music. I guess I have loved music since I was a small child. I can remember riding in the back seat of my parent's car when I was little and listening to Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Gary Stewart, Waylon Jennings...etc. My favorite tape that my parent's had was Porter and Dolly together and they had a song on there called "Run That By Me One More TIme." I loved that song. I knew every word to every song on that album. I used to make my poor family gather round the living room while I put on shows for them. I'd sing or dance or do skits. (Yes, I was a bit spoiled.) My first big break was landing the starring role of Dorothy in the sixth grade production of "The Wizard of Oz." The first song I ever sang on stage was "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."
About the time I became a pre-teen I would babysit for my neices and nephew. It was then I discovered my brother-in-law's record collection. He had everything from Willie Nelson to Janis Joplin, the Beatles to Bille Holiday, BB King to Chuck Mangione, the Blues Brothers to Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton to Fleetwood Mac. I guess through him I discovered one of my idols...Stevie Nicks. I'd stand on the coffee table and pretend to be Stevie Nicks. To this day...she is the one person I'd love to duet with. I performed through-out high school with my church youth group. And then after high school I started my own band and began performing all over the Dallas-Forth Worth area. I moved to Nashville in 1997 and have been living my dream ever since.
I mostly write my own songs, but I'm not opposed to singing other people's songs. I just don't see any reason to pay to cut someone else's song. I have three CD's out. Two of which, I wrote all of the songs on each. I am currently working on my fourth CD. We have new material that I've written and I am so excited about these new songs. I can't wait to record. The new CD was set to be released during the summer of 2008. However, we started writing some new material and it turned out better than the others so we wanted to include it. So, we kind of postponed the release so we can bring you better songs. I just wrote a great song titled..."Life Goes On." I mean...I just wrote it Monday morning (8/11/08). I called my producer and played it for him and he went nuts. So, we're kind of trying to get the best songs ready. This will be a great CD. So, check back often.
