Out in the 3-piece alt-country rock backwoods, you might be lucky to find this North End Halifax band lurking somewhere under the moon. Born in 2002, Deerfield began as an outlet to perform the live music previously recorded by singer/songwriter Roger Nelson. Named for the area Nelson grew up in (a small community in Yarmouth County, NS), the swiftly developed band can be characterized as roots rock with a strong country influence. The classic sound of Deerfield features a refined sensibility coupled with gritty undertones; telling tales of life's adventures, a yearning for love, and embracing nostalgia. Nelson contributes rhythm and lead guitar parts along with vocals in an effortless and endearing manner. Providing a backbeat, Matt Duncanson hits the drums with heavy yet reserved execution. Nick Lawrence's driving bass lines keep a tight and tidy bottom end. Currently, Deerfield frequently performs around the Halifax-area venues.
