About Artist
The Duchess Of Funk: Female bassist, Alana was born and raised in Woodstock, NY, USA. She took to bass naturally, learning mostly from her father (with a lesson or two from Bad Brains Bassist, Daryll Jenifer) after having learned to play the drums, and was playing gigs within the first year of owning a bass at the age of 16. While there in Woodstock, she established herself as a very well-known bassist in the area, as she devoted all her free time to music and kept herself busy gigging, recording and playing just about every style of music there is. While living in Woodstock, this bass babe was an active member in more than 5 gigging bands at once for several years. Alana played and toured with an all-female rock band that was previously signed to Capricorn records, Big Sister. She opened up for Vernon Reid (Guitar Player for Living Colour), various national reggae acts, and several other notable bands musicians before relocating across the country to Seattle, WA in 2005. While living in Seattle, she played with what Seattle Weekly called 'Seattle's funkiest band' known as Altered States Of Funk and was a founding member in the Seattle-based all-girl funk band known as Kissing Potion. Throughout the span of her young career, Alana has played at festivals, at stadiums, theatres and arenas throughout the world. She has played with countless famous musicians including George Clinton and members of P-Funk, members of Bad Brains, and numerous other musicians that have played in notable bands including Zac Alford (the drummer from the B52's and David Bowie). She even got the opportunity to play for PRINCE at his house in LA while in the company of Garmmy award winner, Van Hunt and his manager, Randy Jackson (Journey, American Idol). Alana is currently the touring bassist for Van Hunt, with whom she has opened for Mary J Blige, Anthony Hamilton, Heather Headley, The Brand New Heavies, and has appeared on all the major late night television shows such as The Late Show With David Letterman, Late Night With Conan O'Brian, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Late Late Show With Craig Feruson as well as CD USA twice. With Van Hunt, Alana has played across the United States several times as well as throughout Europe and Japan. This Lady Of The Bass plays under the guise of Duchess Of Funk and is also currently working on an independent project focusing on her original compositions with drummer, Tyler Orion.
