About Artist
The Man. The Show. The Music. The Word. The Story. The Business. The Dynasty.
Seldom are their artists who in their generation, stand out for every conceivable reason. Whether it be for his controversial subject matter, his deceptively swift rise to fame, or his prolific creative output, Eighteen Eighteen (Nesan Pather), has carved a niche for himself in the notoriously difficult music business. Without any major record label support, he has managed to be playlisted locally, played internationally, make an award winning video, perform with some of SA’s top acts and become highly regarded as an emerging business talent within the industry.
His first album, “Urban Poison” (2004), later “Suburban Bliss” (2005) was an instant underground hit, spawning songs such as “Ten Years Of Democracy,” a vicious tirade from the voice of a disenchanted youth, as well as “Thug On The Run” and “Crossfire” which became considerably popular in their own right. The enrire album is currently available for free download, along with his classic video, on www.eighteeneighteen.com. His most recent album, with asian popstar LX Seth – has seen such incredible support, the duo are considering doing it again. Produced by 4Visions/Fusion Records, distributed by Izimpande, and marketed by The Dynasty – “Face/Off” as the album is called, has catapaulted Eighteen into mainstream attention, albeit for his witty lyricisms and RnB inspired image.
Never one to shy away from hard work, Eighteen Eighteen stays constantly on the pulse of the game, forming many new partnerships and projects, which are sure to set the new year ablaze – “The Year of The ‘8” as he calls it! His planned collaboration with Canadian artist SeAn Prominent – will occur as a cross-continental experiment, with both artists working independently within their own borders yet marketing internationally. It is surely a first for SA hip-hop, perhaps hip-hop of any kind. Apart from this, he’s been in discussions with producers from New York, and is already writing rhymes for what will be his next album, an underground back-to-basics style, tentatively labelled “The Eclectic.”
And eclectic he is, with a controversial political album under his belt, an RnB hit and an international progressive hip-hop colab in the wings – Eighteen Eighteen’s music seems to know no boundaries. Eighteen's reach of late has been truly outstanding, being played across the world from Trinidad to Helsingborg, New York and Miami and more, with a rapidly growing fan base.
