About Artist
Twenty-three year old, singer-songwriter Ellie Moss was born and raised in the quiet countryside of southwestern Quebec. Drawn to the piano at the early age of 3, she began studying classical piano and did so until her later teen years. She began teaching herself guitar on her Dad's old Yamaha acoustic at the age of 12 and began writing songs both on piano and guitar soon there after. To date, she has a repertoire of over 25 "usable" songs. Ellie first began performing at piano recitals, school talent festivals and other school events at the age of 4 and continued to do so until the end of high school. Moving to Montreal at the age of 17 she took full advantage of the open mic nights and also started playing small shows around the city. She grew up listening to all kinds of music ranging from Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Henri Mancini, Harry Connick Jr. to Mark Knopfler, Beck, ZZTop, Esquivel, Radiohead and called Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston her "singing teachers". Her new favorites include: KT Tunstall, Cat Power, CocoRosie, Missy Higgins, Portishead, Patrick Watson, Lilly Allen and Hurts to purr. Over the last couple of years, Ellie has been focusing more on her songwriting, improvisation skills on the piano and has experimenting with electronic music and new styles. She makes sure to get out to opens mics as often as she can and plays at least 2-3 small shows a year.
