Emma K Spence born and raised in England to Jamaican parents would use her classical piano training to spend countless hours at the piano writing songs and singing. After Graduating from Brunel University . Emma's first home demo recorded in London took her to the USA where she showcased her songs on the piano to the late legendary producer Arif Mardin (1932 - 2006) and Head of Blue Note records Bruce Lundvall, amongst other industry heavyweights.
My musical style and songwriting is influenced by the music which has been the back ground to my life. Such as when I was a child at one of our many house parties and listening to my parent's record collection of Bob Marley, Reggae, Soca music, Calypso, Caribbean Folk songs and 70s Folk, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklyn and all those other wonderful sounds of American 50's and 60’s R&B.
Also memories of being made to repeatedly sing hymns in the main hall at school, or reluctantly doing the washing-up in my teens and escaping into David Bowie, Queen, Elton John and various British Rock Artists playing on the radio at home in the kitchen.
Listening to the Pop charts in my bedroom on BBC radio one, on a sunday afternoon and hearing the world turning hits of Prince, Whitney Houston, Micheal Jackson, The Eurythmics, Massive Attack and Soul2Soul. Enjoying the privilege of VHS and the music that came with the films that moved me."
