Washington DC-based evenout, makes it clear that they are a band that is more than just a hard-slugging rock act. The balance of guitar-driven heaviness with solid melodic songwriting and acoustic abilities showcase evenout's versatility and sense of adventure.

2004s Drown Inside, recorded with famed producer/mixer Steven Haigler (Fuel, Brand New, Pixies, Jimmies Chicken Shack) at Dragonfly Studios (Bruce Hornsby, Jason Mraz, SR-71), delivered the instantly-memorable lead single "Look Back". After officially hitting alternative specialty radio nationwide on September 14th, 2004, Look Back charted at ..9 (A&R Worldwide) and ..12 (FMQB) while the full length charted at ..14 (A&R Worldwide). With an overriding theme for Gen Y to connect with, front man Maurice Mangum explains Look Back as being about waking up each day convincing yourself you'll make the right decisions, but you just end up doing the same slack shit as the day before. You wake up one day and it's years later... what a waste." Other highlights from Drown Inside include the turbo-charged lead track Controller, and the bittersweet ballad "Fragile Page", buoyed by the raw emotion of Mangum's resounding vocals. As Midwest Record Recap stated, This is a set [Drown Inside] thats competitive with anything the majors are putting out and will probably be right in the same ballpark once it starts making some noise on its own.

Since September of 2004, Drown Inside soundscans have exceeded 1500 units, and the band was featured in the December, 2004 issue of Kings of A&R as a hot topic in the industry. In March of 2005, evenout released the independent single, On To Me to over a dozen digital outlets. Since then, XM Radio has added the single to its playlist along with other stations: Z104 (Wash. DC), DC101 (Wash. DC), WIYY (Baltimore, MD), WEND (Charlotte, NC), and WACL (Harrisonburg, VA).

Firmly entrenched in the mid-Atlantic, thanks to airplay on influential stations like WHFS, DC 101, 98 Rock and 101X, evenout smoothly transitioned from their prior outfit of combinationLOCK. The evolution occurred when Mangum, (who hails from Raleigh, NC) joined cL's Jason Browning (guitar/vocals), Van Swanson (bass) and Doug Pagliaro (drums) in the summer of 2003. combinationLOCK had toured extensively from NYC to Atlanta, recorded two CDs (one with producer Lou Giordano), and had their music placed on a full season of MTV's Undressed and BMI 2002 Music Sampler.

With the addition of Mangum on vocals, the newly christened evenout quickly forged its own style in front of enthusiastic audiences throughout the subsequent years during opening slots for Live, Fuel, Collective Soul, Dark New Day, The Cult, Third Eye Blind, Everclear, The Wildhearts, Sting (acoustic), John Mayer (acoustic) as well as performances on WHFS' HFStival (Wash. DC), CMJ Music Marathon (NYC), and Atlantis Music Conference (Atlanta, GA). With the days of the powerhouse rock band featuring big vocals, meaningful guitar licks and memorable songs on the forefront, evenout should take its place amongst the next to be seen and heard.
