About Band
The debut album from Invisible Mustache banks on its homey feel, and it’s clever songwriting. This album gives hope to any twenty-something who ever wanted to record music in his living room. 1966 has made sweet, sweet love with 2006, and this album is the fruit of their loins. Influences are melded so seamlessly the songs are both fresh and familiar. The production is inspired and offers some tasty moments for those of you who own a good pair of headphones. “The Party” is a perfect opener alerting us of the band’s arrival. The second track sounds like the White Stripes stumbled in on a recording session of Rubber Soul…yeah its that good. “6 into a 9” and “Here We Go Again” should be played on every radio station twice a day. “The Waist Down” and “The Madness Lacks a Method” are fun and thoughtful respectively. “Nothing to Do” would be a fine soundtrack for your quarter-life crisis. There’s a strong keyboard driven tune about time travel and the catchiest song about a waitress I’ve ever heard. By the time I get to the end of the album’s closer, the title track “Feels Like Home”, I’ve transcended love, loss, space, and time. The musical orgasm has left me sluggish. You won’t find a better group of songs all year. The explicit and uniform message is that I.M. have found happiness in quiet homes away from the city, and away from the hassles of the music business. It remains to be seen how well the album will fair. They are sure to do well on college radio and across the pond in the U.K. The guys in Invisible Mustache have been around for a while. However, their resumes look like a mosaic of mediocrity. I.M. is comprised of former members of such bands as Choda, White Trash Band, and VCR. The latter had promise but creative differences ultimately divided the band. What makes this group work is their devotion to friendship, loyalty to their hometown, and a love of damn good music. Mustache has spent longer than usual crafting their first effort. The drawn out recording process has allowed the young quartet to grow. You can almost hear an evolution of their sound within the borders of this single album. Promise like this only builds anticipation for a follow up. With no plans to tour, the invisible ones could be back in the studio before we know it. Rumors that their next release will be a concept album are unconfirmed, but band member and guru Ham has said, “it should sound like the future.” When a band is this good, this quickly, expectations are high. Let’s see if these boys from Syracuse can stand up, and stand together. Hopefully Invisible Mustache won’t disappear any time soon.
