About Band

How far can we manipulate or generate sound so that it no longer bears any resemblance to anything existing in the natural world. How boundless are the possibilities of such concrete mediums as melody, and language. Jake Jasmine’s music attempts to remind us that with the right creativity, the possibilities are limitless. While piercing guitars slice through a fog of white noise, bouncing off stuttered low-end melodies, and hypnotizing grooves swagger between steady and ferocious, all are guided by a voice of haunting, self-reflective poetry.

Jake Jasmine is Ian Macdonald's newest and most refined musical venture. A veteran of the Vancouver music scene, Ian has toured throughout Western Canada, playing along side such notable acts as The Manvils, The Doers, Hot Little Rocket, Insipid, and Billy and the Lost Boys. His previous rock band Ponderosa recorded the LP “Attack of the Rosa,” which was received to high acclaim on chartattack.com. Ponderosa also reached the semi-finals in CiTR's Shindig 2004, and were featured on CiTR’s Thunderbird Radio Hell. Together with long-time friend and guitarist Mircea Tracke, the pair dilligently crafted Jake Jasmine's songs under the tutelage of singer/songwriter Joel Kroeker (Northwest Records), recruiting bassist Aaron McKinney (The Matinee, The Day Release Program) and drummer Daniel Ruiz along the way.

Most recently, Jake Jasmine recorded their debut self-titled EP, produced by singer/songwriter Ryan Hauschild, known as Winston (Aquarius Records). The record blends personal exploration with an escapist imagination. Ambitious to share their music with as many people as possible, Jake Jasmine have already begun playing live shows around Vancouver, sharing the stage with The Details, Cupids, and The February March among others, and have since participated in the 2007 New Music West Festival. They plan to continue showcasing their music extensively in the near future.
