About Band

Johnny Goes West is an indie band from the border country between Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire consisting of Michael Boyd (vocals, guitar), Thomas Walley (vocals, guitar), Henry Edmund Davis (bass guitar) and Charlie Hodge (drums). They play melodic, clean guitar music characterised by often sharp, spiky or bouncy riffs with danceable beats and clear, precise vocals. They are also renowned for their quirky, often humorous lyrical content, often depicting autobiographical teenage antics in a blunt and forthright way, as well as bizarre song titles.

They formed in 2005 as a punk trio named “The Autistics”, founded by Walley and ex-bassist Tim Combley. Boyd and vocalist Phil Lindsey then joined although in March 2006 Boyd took on the role of lead vocalist. Their earlier punk sound was replaced by a cleaner, bouncier indie sound, heavily influenced by the sound of British indie bands such as Good Shoes, Bloc Party and the Arctic Monkeys.

Their band name comes from the dildo from the US blockbuster “American Pie 2”, in the scene where Finch and Stiffler spy on the two blondes in lingerie.

They have released one self-promoted EP in October 2006 entitled “A Side of Charm” encompassing their earlier bouncy and spiky sound.
