About Artist
Hi! I'm me. Leah J. I manage this page all by me onesies. I am the pastor of Christ the Servant Community Church, a Church of the Brethren in Cape Coral FL. I come from a musical family, and I'm also the daughter of a pastor and the sister of a pastor. I was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and reared up the road in Indiana, PA. In 1990 my father took a new church situation in Ashland, Ohio where I went to Junior High and High School. I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for one semester before transferring to Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, specializing in piano studies, theory and composition. I went back to Ashland to pursue a Master of Arts in Church Music and Spiritual Formation at Ashland Theological Seminary, but I left there with my degree unfinished to pursue the call to join a church planting team led by my songwriting/recording partner and close Seminary friend, Scott Ailes. So I upped and moved here to Florida in August of 2004, first to Sarasota, then to Bradenton. In March 2007 I moved to Cape Coral to accept the position as Minister of Youth and Music, and in October of 2007 I was called to be pastor of one of those congregations, Christ the Servant.
I wrote my first of over 260 songs when I was 11, a horrid song called "I Miss My Time With You" (nothing like the old Larnelle Harris song!), but I've actually improved a little since then and now make a supplemental living singing and writing songs, preaching and teaching, facilitating spiritual renewal retreats and performing at weddings. I've recorded four CDs now, all of which fall into one of two categories: OUT OF PRINT or NEVER BEEN PRINTED. Most recently, I was able to return to the studio to record a piano/vocal demo of a song I wrote for my congregation when we were working through a Sermon Series on First Peter. It's called "Gold," and it's available here for you to listen to it.
I enjoy eBaying, my kitten Clare, driving, knitting/crocheting afghan squares for Kidney Afghans For KIDS (pattersonmusicgroup.com/afghans), MySpace, Reverbnation, Unsigned.com, swimming with my 81-year-old neighbor Evie, reading (mystery, thriller, legal drama, armchair detective, spiritual classics, Bible, Christian Living, entertainment magazines, and anything written on the Emerging Church Movement), and listening to music. Drop me a comment and say hi, I'd love to meet you. I hope you like what you hear.
Leah J, John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease."
