Born out of a friendship of three musicians that met in the Colorado Jazz Workshop, Denver-based Lost Soul is primarily made up of Mike Evans (trumpet, vocals), Kathryn Shut (piano, vocals), Chris Brown (bass), and Kevin MacInness (drums). LS has played at several local functions, both while members of the CO Jazz Workshop and under its current name, such as an auction for Denver Hospice, a customer appreciation dinner for a company's clients, and guest appearances to provide music for "jazz services" at both Columbine Unitarian Universalist and Jefferson Unitarian churches. Evans, Shut, and MacInness have also been spotted around town sitting-in (or as resident members) with other groups, such as with Mark Brostrom and Amy Kitteringham of the Amy Kay Combo (at Bliss Café in Arvada, CO), jamming with the Jared Johnson Trio, and providing music for a special Christmas event in Littleton last year. Jared and Kevin also jammed with Lost Soul as special guests on July 27, 2007 at Jefferson UU's "jazz-inspired service", and the photos on the site are mostly from that fabulous event. Styles played range between traditional jazz and swing to latin and funk. Evans, a member of several local groups, also has been known to incorporate some Dixieland jazz influence into his playing.
