Marissa Renee Shipp, 19, was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She has always had a love for music since she was a little girl. Whether its rockin’ out to Prince, or singing along to Stevie Wonder with her dad, music has always been a part of her life, and finally her dreams are coming true! Since she was 14, Marissa has performed as the lead singer of the full live Hip Hop/Funk band Cousin Affect. In 2007, she was asked to be the vocal talent on Dance, Dance Revolution for Konami, singing Just Believe. “I had a blast recording for a video game, and the funny thing is, I have no idea how to play it!” Before relocating to Los Angeles, Marissa Renee had the opportunity to perform her original song, “Like Me,” at the Kanye West ‘Glow in the Dark’ tour Block Party in Arizona. “I opened for Colby O’donis, C-Side, and Tyga during the KISS FM Valley’s Got Talent Competition. It was about 103 degrees, but it was SO COOL!” Marissa also attended the Speech Level Singing Summer Vocal Program in Los Angeles, where she received vocal training from Vanessa Purdy and studied Artist Development/Songwriting with Loren Israel. “I never realized the importance of songwriting until I worked with Loren. Now, knowing that I have an amazing gift, I have started to come together as an artist,” says the talented singer/songwriter. “The saying ‘never give up’ sounds so cheesy, but that’s what I tell myself. You have to want it more than anything else. That’s how I feel about music,” says the young singer, “It’s hard, but, with the love and support of my #1 fan James, and my family I am able to stay focused.” Marissa Renee is currently working on her album with producer Andrew Lane. Marissa Renee is also working with Loren Israel on songwriting and artist development.
