No*Tokyo

About Band

'As soon as No Tokyo walk onstage there's something about them that shouts "A&R men's shopping lists". There's a confidence and assuredness about these four North Manchester lads that belies their tender years. They open with a good five minutes of instrumental looping spaced-out effects, a loose groove of a rhythm sliding in, and the singer - a young Ian Brown in no-messing zipped-up red Adidas - fixing the crowd like he's surveying his kingdom. Just a few gigs old but even at this stage you can tell if a band's got it or not. Whatever it is. They have. Each song's a sprawling piece of baggy-backed space rock, the missing link between psychedelic-end Verve and the between-albums Stone Roses when they could do no wrong. Tunes that would work as well to dance to in a club as they would to chill out to on a lazy afternoon. Yes there are frayed edges, bits that don't quite come together, and room for some of these songs to develop more individual character, but everything's in place here for a band with great potential. Don't forget their name.'  - Manchester Music
