About Band

On a Friday Biography

It’s no simple task trying to get anywhere based on the Isle of Man…but it is a journey that has taken On a Friday part way down a road paved with many an amusing anecdote, passing through low and high points that would make the adrenalin pump vigorously through anyone’s mortal forms. At such tender ages their adventures are just beginning……

From playing the music venues of the island the band have come to call home, to busking in Cornwall on summer breaks to writing music with people already established the music industry (Jack (guitar) has co-written a track with James Bourne (Busted/Son of dork) that is included on Son of Dorks second album) The hard work is only just beginning, after 500 copies of their first E.P selling out in one and a half months and with the sales of their second E.P proving a success in HMV needing restocked several times, performing in and winning local battle of the bands. Playing major local music events especially at the islands world famous TT event, supporting several signed bands such as Multi Purpose Chemical, I am the Door, Swound and Four Day Hombre. For a band that has been performing together for such a brief period of time it proves their commitment to themselves and their music that they have kept their priorities the same as at the onset, to enjoy their art to the full with no distractions. They certainly have remained the same.

even no-bodies can be rock stars, if they want toOn A Friday

Not everything always goes to plan, however on a Friday always seem to make the best out of any situation. With all the band in the van on the way to a gig in the north of the island, John (drums) noticed something wrong with their vehicle.....typical, an hour before they were due to sound check…a puncture. With no spare tyre, James (Bass) called the garage. Sat at the edge of the road just on the outskirts of town, Harry (vocals) began to get bored, so rather randomly Jack (guitar/vocals) suggested they get the guitars out of the van and jam whilst waiting for the van to be fixed. The guys grabbed their guitars and started to play at the side of the road! Before they new it, a few passers by stopped and listened and some change was thrown on the floor in front of them, even though this was not their intention. Chris (guitar) ended up speaking to a guy who happened to be a local busker who asked if he could join in. When the mechanic had finally finished repairing the van, the band had made twenty five pounds which they gave to the busker, who ended up watching them at their gig that evening. The gig was a great success, even though they were a little late, so what looked like was going to be a complete nightmare turned out to be an amazing, eventful all night gig.

mind screaming to her faceOn A Friday

With influences so diverse with the eclectic mix of band members, each with strong personalities and extremely varied personal tastes, On A Friday revel in the challenges of crossing different genres of music. Bands to which they owe a substantial amount of credit to as far as their influential input is concerned and is apparent in their sound are Lost Prophets, Fightstar, The Thrills, Yellow Card, The Blackout and  Fall Out Boy . There is no problem with putting their hearts on their sleeves, their lyrics are all either emotional or entertaining, as it is their belief that their personalities must come across in their music. Their passion for their art is evident upon first encounter.

With increasing interest on their local scene, over the internet and with interest in their sound and look from producers such as Dave Hillis (Alice in chains, Pearl Jam, Afghan Wigs) Lizzard (Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, Chilli Peppers, Paul Oakenfold, Tim Palmer (Robert Plant, Texas, Tears for fears )) already firmly established, branching further a field with no fear of experimentation or taking risks and  with reviews such as :

What direction will their journey take next? If their short trip so far is any indication they will enjoy, revel in and learn from every moment of it. One thing is certain the future will read like they write it.
