PIRATE GIRL is an experimental, alternative, unique and original mix of the creative drives of Kate Kilbane and Michael Powell, with help instrumentally from an array of gifted musicians. The variety of styles makes it impossible to tie the genre down to simply one or three discriptions. See Ophelia and Naked God, along with Go See, are three of the group's favorites in a new wave/alternative style, and Kate's Love, Folksongs from Pluto, and Peeps Singing, are examples of the group's film score compositions. You're So Crazy is one of the songs scheduled to be featured in an upcoming film by a Director working with Paramount Studios and New Line Cinema. All these songs and the many others in their musical catalog are as varied and unique as the next. Michael Powell began his carreer in Akron, Ohio, teaming up with the Mothersbaugh brothers and Gerald Casale of Devo and Chris Hynde of The Pretenders, and has not shyed away from continuing to expand the borders of song writing since then. Kate Kilbane has performed with various well known acts and has a rich vocal quality of her own. Jeff Bremer is the principal bassist for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and participates in several jazz projects. David Kana is an active jazz horn man and was the featured jazz soloist for the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Although this is not primarily a "jazz" group, the mixture of key signatures and complex time signatures makes it a work out for talented jazz musicians, so they are attracted to the opportunity to perform with Michael and Kate in the group known as Pirate Girl.
