POONTANG was formed in early 2005 after blues jam night in a local pub in Haverhill, Suffolk. The band's style of music is American which is a fusion of blues,country,and rock. POONTANG performs a blend of covers and original material. One moment you would think you were listening to a country band, then next you would be hearing the blues or rock. The covers the band plays aren't the usual standards but songs that are familiar or those that you have forgotten about for example; The Mid-Night Special, Susie Q, Hang on Sloopy, Sweet Home Chicago, and The Pusher, a Steppenwolf song that POONTANG has transformed into an epic piece of music expressing drug abuse and death. Truely a trip. Once the band arrives at the venue an impression is immediately made which is a group of musicians sporting long hair, tattoos and beards where the assembled audience aren't quite sure as to what they have let themselves in for. However, as soon as the gear is set up and the band kicks off everybody begins to relax and start to groove with the band and the audience start smiling. The performance is a journey as you're taken to wide open spaces....
