-------------------- PRAVEEN K BHAT's INTERVIEW -------------------

Shot 1 Take 1 ............Start Camera, Lights, Keep Rolling, ACTION ----------> :)

I am Praveen Kemptoor from Mangalore, though I spent most of my years in Bangalore I am a mangalorean by birth :)

I am an artist by birth, might be I got influenced by my mother Mrs. Sujatha K R and father Mr. Udupi R G who has been a great source of inspiration for all my cultural interests.

I started my journey as a newsreader in my primary school (NRVM- NR Colony, Bangalore ) then inspired by my classmate I started learning Bharathanatyam from Vidhushi Savitha Padhmanabhan when I was in 6th standard. I also started learning karnatic classical music and light music from Mrs. Madhura.

I did my first entry into the world of theatre as an actor cum director in the play "Moogina thudhi" for a cultural fest in my primary school. I did my Bharathanatyam Junior level certificate when I was in 8th standard.

I joined National High School , Basavanagudi just because it’s a Home for great artists like veteran actor Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Arvindh, Hema Panchamukhi, Anil Kumble, Chandrashekar, etc.

I did my first Bharathanatyam dance performance at a Ganesh fest in NR Colony. I actively participated in cultural activities in NHS. I acted in play named "Tingara Buddanna" in 8th std. Then came the turning point in my career as an actor and director. I and my classmates staged a play named "Sri Krishna Sandhana", a comedy play directed by me and my classmates in 10th std E section (NHS). I played the role of a drama teacher called "Mestru". I won the overall BEST ACTOR out of all the 48 plays staged for intersection drama competition. It was an honor to receive the award from sandalwood actress Hema Panchamukhi (Lead actress in America America film).

Thus started my theatre journey and is still going on and on. Later I participated in ISRO's science day skit competition and won best science skit award for the skit directed by my GURU Mr. H V Venugopal ( Sanskrit Prof. National College , Basavanagudi, Bangalore ).

It was in my early PU days that I was greatly inspired by theatre work and involved my self in all the theatre work in The Theatre Lab at NCB, the first of its kind (Can u believe it !! A lab for Theatre work that was my GURU HVV's master plan). I spent my early college days over there, participated in Theatre Workshop conducted by Mr. Nataraj Honnavalli (A trained director from National School Drama, New Delhi and Neenaasam, Hegod, Karnataka).

I was trained in various fields of theatre by theatre veterans like Jayanth Kaykini, RamaKrishna Belthur, Pramodh Shigao, Suresh Aangalli, Janni, Sashidhar Barighat, Vasudha Barighat, B V Rajaram, Uncle Shyam and many others. We staged a play as a product of the workshop which was based on the short stories by P Lankesh from his collection on short stories "Lankeshana sanna kathegalu" and the play included 3 stories "Nalliyalli neeru banthu", "Adhikarigalu mathu kelasadhava" and "ondhu Gode". I played the role of one of the adhikari (govt. official) in "Adhikarigalu mathu kelasadhava" which was a great learning experience for me.

Later I participated in "Singanallur Puttaswamayya Parithoshaka Inter collegiate level cultural competition" when I was in 1st PUC. We staged a play named "Abhinava Bruhannala Vilasa" based on a novel "Nata Narayani" by marati novelist Shankar Mokashi Punekar. My Theatre GURU Nataraj Honnavalli is known for his art of staging novels. It’s a very difficult process of converting a novel on papers to a drama on stage with several artists trying there best to make sure that the writer's feelings can be conveyed to the vast variety of audience.

Later I and my friend Mr. Puneeth A V (D F Tech, Hyderabadh) staged a 2 man show "Deepa Pishachi Deepa" for inter section drama competition in NCB and won the rolling shield for Overall Best Drama from both PU and Degree section. It was again a great fun and learning experience.

After my PU in NCB I joined Alpha College of Engineering, Dodda gubbi, Bangalore for my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Because of the hectic syllabus in Visweshwaraiah Technological University , Belgaum , Karnataka) I could not continue my theatre work for 4 long years. But I always managed to involve my self in street plays and dramas produced by "Samudaya" a theater group in Bangalore . I am also part of theatre team "Navodaya" started by Mr. Poornachandra Tejaswi (Mr. Ganesh).

Currently I am working as a software engineer in one of the IT firm in Mangalore. I have plans of continuing my hobby as a theatre artist and would like to contribute what ever littlie I can to the world of arts that has helped me groom myself as a human being.

I always believe in these words by saint Basavanna so with this I would like to finish my short story (in my opinion),

"Kala beda Kola beda, husiya nudiyalu beda thanna bannisa beda edhira haliyalu beda anyarige hasaya pada beda edhe antharanga shudhi edhe bahiranga shudhi edhe namma koodalsangama devanolisuva pari"

It says "never steel things, dont hurt others, don’t lie, don’t praise yourself, don’t condemn others, and don’t show hatred that’s the only way to reach GOD"
