About Band
Hold up, sorry no you’re not sitting next to Penny Lane on the Almost Famous Tour of 73’, Yes we are in 2008. RoadRunner are a blues oriented rock band from Hitchin, Hertfordshire. A 6 piece that started partly for their shared passion of blues music and for their dislike of the media’s portrayal of ‘skinny fit jeans, floppy hair and the classic indie set up’. These guys set out to bring back a bit of that rubber soul. Their love is of a much stronger kind based around such iconic artists as The Rolling Stones, Free, Black Crowes, and John Lee Hooker. These psychedelic sex rockers keep the stone rolling for sure. With such maturity in Lead singer Alex’s voice it’s hard to believe this band have an average age of 17. Easter 2006 embraced the start of RoadRunner who by the summer had already secured themselves a place at Europe’s largest free festival, Rhythms of the World in their home town of Hitchin, Hertfordshire on the Eclectic stage showcasing which was then an early loose, acoustic style evolving into a exciting blues experience.
RoadRunner, the art of the summer sixties anthem – have that rare gift of being able to craft a three minute guitar walloper that sends your flared jeans and daisy chains to the fields of 69 before the owners even have a chance to roll a good spliff.
‘LATELY I have spoken to a number of young bands who are making a name for themselves on the music scene. But, apart from making me feel old, they make me proud that the local scene is getting infused with fresh, enthusiastic blood. Alex said: "We're all from Hitchin. Half of us started out in a heavier rock band, The Jetkings, about two years ago, and the others have just fallen into the mix it seems!" And the mix seems to be right this time as they launched RoadRunner: The Album last Friday at Club 85. And what an album it is! Time Will Fade Away is the sort of song that will find firm fans across genres, while some of their higher energy tunes like High Time will have even the club wallflowers tapping their feet.’ - Becky Findley, The Comet.
