About Band

My name is Ron Betts from Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon receiving my first bass amp from, William Earl "Bootsy" Collins. I started my career as a bass player. Every young musician in the community of Evanston, (located in Cincinnati Oh.) including me knew about King Recording Studio... If you grew up in and around King Recording Studio, (owned by the late great James Brown) you would always want to visit the inside. James Brown gave any and all musicians the opportunity to express themselves... The first group I played for was the Mystics. Managed by the late Rev. Dr. Ardie Brown Jr. A notable member of this group was Gerald Brown formerly of the group called (Shalamar). After the group started getting a little recognition I was drafted into the military in 1968. When I returned home, I formed a group known as Sky's the Limit. My guitar player was Clarence "Magoo" Mason. My keyboard player was Cheryl Smoo.t. Cheryl is now a notable blues singer... When the group disbanded, I found myself playing Gospel music. Soon after that I was contacted by The Charles Fold Singers of Cincinnati... During my 17 years playing bass guitar with the Charles Fold Singers, I played on at least seven recorded albums... These albums were produced by the late great James Cleveland... While an active participant with the group the group received numerous music awards to include 3 Grammy nominations, 3 Gold Albums, and one Grammy. The Grammy Award  for the album "Lord Let Me Be an Instrument" recorded live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I give my respects to the late great Dr. Charles Fold and the late great Rev. Dr. James Cleveland for the opportunity to be a part of history. I also recorded an album with my personal friend, jazz drummer Art Gore, who has played with a host of jazz greats. We recorded with the Revelation Baptist Church. Album titled "Choose Ye This Day". I am also the bass player along with organist Michael Gaston, ( Bibleway Church Of God In Christ Cincinnati Ohio) on the Honorable. Leslie Isaiah Gaines his recording "The Lord Don't Know Nothing About Unemployment Cause He's Working Overtime". Other artists I have played for, while on The World's Greatest Gospel Tour who at that time recorded on Savoy Records includes Inez Andrews and Myrna Summers, as the bass player for The Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church. I had the opportunity to have as a member of the choir Belinda Lipscolm. Reggy Caloway, and Kenneth Gant of Midnight Star assisted as part of one of our anniversary celebration At The Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church, at that time was pastured by The Rev. Freddie T. Piphus This has been some of the great moments of my life. I feel that this career in music has immortalized me in the eyes of my children and grandchildren. Through music I will always live.
