About Band
Rouge formed in the fall of 2008, right before their 8th grade year. Inspired by many bands, including Green Day, Paramore, Muse, and Hawk Nelson, four girls wanted to start a revolution--all girl bands will sell themselves by the music; not the image.
Thought up of by Katie (bass/guitar) and Dani (leadvocals/guitar) in the early years in middle school, the girls finally got together Aubry (past-keyboards/backingvocals) and Aly (past-drums) and had the first rehearsal in August.
interviewer: How did you guys come up with the name Rouge? dani (rougefrontwoman): It's a funny story, actually. Aly and I were up in my bonus room, trying to think of a name. I think the day before I heard 'Rouge' in an interview or it was 'Rouse' and I mistook it for Rouge, so I just blurted it out. When we showed it to the rest of the band they went estatic, they loved it.
In a later interview, Dani said it was also the name of her first electric guitar.
Though the first month was fun, Aly decided not to be in the band anymore. Katie said "she just didn't have the time anymore. But we still love her."
Aubry, who was still learning her keyboards by that time, decided that she would take over drums, as well as keyboard and backing vocals. Later in 2009, Rouge had recruited Kim, who was in Dani's Language Arts class. "I remember talking about the band one day, and Kim just said 'Oh! I play drums!'" says Dani.
But the in the following months, Rouge encountered another dispatchment with one of thier members.
"We started the band to make music, and to become closer with each other. At this point, we weren't making music because no one was coming to rehearsals, and it was tearing us apart. The 'dispatchment' was nessecary for our tattered friendships to survive,"
The band, now a three-some, is rehearsing harder than ever, and is coming up with a lot of new music. "We're planning on hitting the studio this summer, and if not this summer than by Christmas. We're all really excited." Rouge says.
In the near future, we'll all get to see what this red rouge-hot, young girl-band, will cook up.
