Not many people are born with the unique talent of making sense in chaos through intricate, surrendering prose. Even less are able to sew it into waves of dreamy ethereal song. And no one can do it like singer-songwriter Sabrina Velazquez. Using instruments like the violin, piano, and guitar the 27 year-old has defined a secretive and lucid world through music.

 

After picking-up the violin at age 7 and playing up into her late teens, Sabrina began playing the guitar on a whim. "I was in college at the time and was so busy with school, yet I could hardly deny the fact that the guitar just pulled me in. I'd play between classes and would wake-up at 5 am just to get playing time in."  Sabrina taught herself how to play by learning simple folk songs. "They were three chord songs that I could play with easily. Then I started learning Bob Dylan and Jewel songs and it just sort of went from there."

 

Having written poetry since age 7, it was only natural for Sabrina to begin putting songs together. She describes such influences as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell and Gemma Hayes. The complexity of their guitar playing and lyrical combination was inspiring. After graduating and trying her hand at marketing for three years she finally decided to give up her professional career for her true passion, music. "I played and wrote on the side while I was working in marketing but was never fulfilled the way I was when writing songs. Writing challenges me and the feeling I get when I play is immeasurable."

 

With wine like feedback and the sweet relief of her folky honey voice, her sound lulls and washes over with a rare beauty. Spellbinding and simple, Sabrina's lyrical explorations of frustration, beauty and resolution, fully expose the raw underside of herself in hopes of giving back to all those who see her.
