Hi!
Its me... SAMMY RAE!
I do not read sheet music, but have always been talented when learning peces by ear. I noticed that I had this gift when I began taking paino lessons at age 6. I noticed that before I went home and learned a peice out of the sheet music book, my teacher would play it for me as an example. I remember going home and knowing how to play it after hearing my teacher play it once, but could never read the music! I just had the ability to remeber what he played and play it back a week later.
I put together my own peices, do covers, and take songs that have no piano and make them all piano. I have my own style, mixing different vocals techniques. For example, I am a HUGE fan of The Beatles. I also listen to pop singer MIKA, and I perform with my musical theater group, so my style of voice and interests are a mix of everything.
I sound like :A little of everything...
As I said, i listen to all music, but I sing with a theater company along with school choir, and on my own (Which can be anything!) I think I sound a little like Michelle Branch and a little like Colbie Cailiat. I cant really compare myself to anyone. All my covers are slightly different than the originals, b/c I love to add my own twists and mold my voice to the song! I try not to compare myself to anyone throughout my life.
Influences:
MIKA Penniman- and his ability to be himself through his music without being swayed by the media. His music tells how to be your own person without fear of what others think, and explains the importance of diversity.
Andrew Bird- Bird has a wonderful way of writing lyrics that mean something other than what they say. I admire his use of intricate vocabulary and complex analogies, and I try to use that influence to make my music less one leveled and cliche.
The Hoosiers- Ive always loved the way the London Based trio can mess around with the beats of peices, using alot of syncopated rythyms and words split into odd syllables. I try to use such techniques in my song writing, which can be hear in such songs as "The Thing And The Professionals" and a new soon to be uploaded single, "Oh"
The Beatles- Their beleif in a peaceful world, songwriting techniques, and beautifully complex music.
Motto: PEACE , LOVE, MUSIC :D
