About Band
Good day bretheren!
It was born in Rotherham. Essentially the offspring of a bunch of fat, old, drunks. Two of the band being terminal Powerpop anoraks; the other two very close friends of 'Sylvia'! All four had previously occupied roles in the country/folk combo The Bony Kings of Nowhere.
Who are Searching for Sylvia? It's a sort of Powerpop/Americana/Alt Rock thing. Nothing pretentious, all borne of personal experience and a need to vent spleens from time to time. Musically you can hear Neil Young, Matthew Sweet, Uncle Tupelo and The Rutles which on occasion can be both vicious and chiming but always melodic and hooky. The lyrics, however, come from a huge mine of personal beliefs, scepticisms and rants from three very individual Yorkshiremen. Words that are equal parts dark, accusatory, ridiculous and stupidly uplifting.
Currently the band are operating as a 5 piece comprising the songwriting team of Chris Cooper, Andy Hartley and Pete Sheldon plus drummer, long time cohort Andy Buckles and new guitar player Ian Higginbottom. Ian is from Sheffield but we can live with that. The next few months will see them readying most of last years demos for some gigs and proper studio treatment so watch this space.
Be sure to visit their myspace site, give the demos a listen and look out for the self financed mini album that should be ready later this year.
Thanks for taking time to check us out.
Andy, Pete, Coop, Buck and Ian
