About Band

Let's face it - which band on earth doesn't insist on

1. not fitting into any musical genre
2. writing the most awesome songs ever
3. rocking harder than everyone else and wrecking stages around the globe?

SEMUC is different, you know...

...No, they're not. Of course, the five-piece from Mainz, Germany is cocksure that their music is unique and ingenious and that their live-performance can rock each and every club in town. In the world of Rock 'n' Roll one can't live without a good deal of self-confidence after all.

Even the fact that nobody can pronounce their name won't curb their assertiveness. It's so easy, though: short E, short U. The word is borrowed from the language of the Guatemalan Q'eqchi' indians and means "holy water".

SEMUC was founded in summer 2005 by Albert, Yan, Jörn, Sven and Bruno. The band members became acquainted with each other during another music project. Soon it became clear that the five students would make common cause in the future. Experience they had more than enough. Now they play turkey. Deafening guitar riffs over pounding beats, aggression and eruption, but also soft sounds and fragile melodies shape SEMUC's sound.

They call their music "Grindpop" although it sounds neither like grindcore nor like pop. But like everything in between: metal meets alternative, funk meets progressive, rock meets punk. Euphony meets distortion. Loud, but classy.

On stage, SEMUC will count those buttercups one minute - and mow them down with chainsaws the other. Up front, Yan and Jörn erect walls of sound and play everything from breakable to brute. From behind, Sven's massive bass makes the listener's trouser legs quiver. At the same time, Bruno hits the drums with an extraordinary mix of elegance and mincemeat. Above all that, Albert sings and screams little stories about interpersonal desasters, about the flaws of society or just about his interlocutor's little brain damage.

Songs that turn you on. Songs you won't turn off. Songs you'll turn louder.

Songs that become bigger each time you listen to them.

Until they're all in your head.
