My name is Shannon O'Brien, I'm 23 years old, I live in Upstate, NY and I LOVE TO SING! Enough said? . . . NOT REALLY, lol!
Growing up on Long Island, NY with my parents (who both LOVE music) I have been singing since I can remember. My first love is musical theatre. I've been watching and singing along with musicals since I can remember. There is nothing I adore more than seeing a really great musical for the first time and then falling in love with it's score . . . There's nothing like it! I hope to one day perform in a musical, even if it's only locally and not on Broadway (Broadway's my dream though). I do, however, love all types of music (everything, just about, except rap . . . although, I even like some of that too, lol). AND I love to SING all types of music, not just showtunes.
My first musical idol originated on Broadway and she is Linda Eder. The power behind her voice is mind-blowing and the ease with which she can belt is truly astonishing. She is a vocal GODDESS! My second idol has to be Karen Carpenter. Karen Carpenter, who's voice was/is the most beautiful voice I think any of us will ever hear was a talent that impacted me from my earliest days. The first music I ever sang along with (that I can clearly remember) was by The Carpenters. That voice, that heavenly voice is always there in my mind when I sing. I can only pray to God that one day I might be a 100th as good as the two women I've mentioned above. As I've yet to take vocal lessons (besides a month and a half of hellish 'karaoke singing lessons'. Need I say anymore, lol?) I don't see myself being a millionth as good, lol. Yeah, the karaoke teacher didn't even give me any warm ups to do (which I now know is unbelievable)!
There was (just like with everything in life) a shining side to this coin . . . I got to perform in his 'Singers Showcase' and I LOVED IT! I felt absolutely right at home on stage and the experience was one that I will never forget and more importantly, was one that only reaffirmed my life's dream . . . This IS what I want to do with the rest of my life. I plan on beginning vocal lessons (real ones this time, lol) within the next year. I'm going to take it from there and see what happens!
I'm currently a stay at home wife (well soon to be, we're engaged) and for now, I LOVE IT! I adore cooking (Food network . . . I love you! Hehe) and baking. I even enjoy cleaning the house (I know, I know! But it's true, lol!). I'm engaged to who has to be the most wonderful man in the world, Jason. He is my rock and has been for the last 6 years and I love him more than I think I will ever love anything . . . I'm very lucky to have found him. About a year ago we made a very eagerly anticipated addition to our little family . . . A German Shepherd puppy, who we named Rudy. He is our baby (we're not planning on having kids so he truly is, lol) and our best companion. We brought him home at 8 weeks old and weighing a measly 14 pounds and now, at a year and a half old, he's almost 100 pounds! Just more of him for us to love!
I'm very happy at this point in my life (I had a very bad childhood but it's not something I like to whine about because it has made me who I am today and it's only proved to make me stronger than I would have been otherwise). I'm very thankful for my life and all that I have.
I really hope to share my music and voice with the world and if that happens . . It'll just be the icing on the cake!
