About Band
The band that would become Shotgun Alibi formed, almost by accident, in January 2004 when Andi Tate and Alex Ryde first met and realised that they each shared a passion for beer, loud music and video games.
In March 2005, they enlisted the skills of Matt Shaw, who showed off his aptitude for trying to copy what Andi played – getting it wrong – and inventing a perfect guitar harmony (a trait he still milks today, we might add).
It was not long after Matt’s introduction that the band took on the moniker of “Shotgun Alibi”. All they needed now was a spiritual shove in the right direction.
That shove came in April 2006. Andi brought in drummer Chris Thornton, just to add that little sense of rhythm to their rhyme. Now that the band had a drummer, the guys decided to book into a rehearsal room at Mill Hill Music Studio for the first time (They are now almost a permanent fixture on Wednesday nights)…
While shooting his film debut in October 2006, Alex met Jake Munn, who joined the ranks of Shotgun Alibi as bass player.
2007 saw Shotgun Alibi record two demo CDs at Mill Hill Music Studio.
January 2008 saw the band live debut at The Horn in St Albans. The bands first gig also happened to be Heat 3 of The Horn’s famous Battle of the Bands competition. The lads progressed to the Semi-finals, and were eventual runners up in the Battle of the Bands Final in June 2008.
July saw the band perform their first open-air gig at Elstree Cricket Club in support of Elstree Productions amateur dramatics society.
The final gig for the original line up of Shotgun Alibi was in August 2008 at The Horn, supporting Joan Ov Ark. After this, the lads retreated to the studio to work on new material.
Jake officially left the band in October 2008, citing creative differences and financial issues.
Two weeks later, the phenomenal Adam Scott was introduced as his replacement, and his debut gig will go down in Alibi lore - with 60% of the band suffering from flu and Adam shining like the resurrected Christ (he wore a WHITE t-shirt, under a WHITE spotlight, in a DARK room).
2009 sees them going from strength to strength; organising a self-funded and promoted event, and creating songs that are better structured and designed primarily for the enjoyment of the most important people in the world…their fans.
