“A buddy and I went to Radio Shack and got this cheap beat making software and a little headset microphone.  To record, we just played the beat super loud and let the mic record my voice and the beat at the same time.  It was sort of like a live recording but really, really bad.  We did a few songs like that actually.  Some may still be in circulation somewhere, but I sure as hell hope not.” Spoon says when asked to describe his first song. 

After investing in some recording equipment and meeting some like-minded artists and producers, Spoon began to get recognition through internet promotion and whatever gigs he could get in and around Northern VA.   He performed with “Praverb The Wyse” from Stafford, VA.   They called the two-man group “Axis.”  Performing at local club, “The Bourbon Room,” once a week, Axis became a local favorite.  Soon, however, “Hip Hop Night” was discontinued due to violent incidents at other rap shows in the area.  Axis played a few more shows before becoming stagnant and eventually going their separate ways.  Spoon went on to record the “Drawn With an Eraser” LP from 2005 through early 2007.  It was released independently in June of 2007 on CD. 

“I make rap music.” Spoon explains when asked to describe his genre-crossing style.  “I think today’s hip hop has been pigeonholed to this small list of things that are “okay” to rap about.  I think that when somebody raps about something different with a totally new vibe, it's weird for a lot of people but refreshing for those who like hip hop but can't relate to some of the typical mainstream rap songs.  I write about things that make sense to me and that I can relate to.  In the end, it’s still rap.”

Currently, Spoonfull is attending college at NOVA and working on the “Framework” EP with California producer, Viktomajarmo.  No date as been set for its release.
