About Artist

"From out of the darkness here comes the light, the movement, bout to show you how to get on your grind."

Q. It's your time to shine now; tell the people who you are and where you're from...

A.
It's ya boi Stretch holding it down for the west coast. I was born in L.A. but moved around a bit. I've lived in Japan, Louisiana, but a majority of my life was spent in Oceanside, CA. That's the northern part of San Diego for those who don't know.

Q. Japan!? what was that like?

A.
Really with the military being everywhere, its a lot like the states. I think everywhere is the same just different scenery. It was a culture shock at first but once you're there, you see that people are alike in many ways.

Q. Alright, so about your music. When did you start writing/producing and what made you get into the music business?

A.
I've always been a fan of good music. My father used to listen to Jazz and my moms listened to Gospel. In the house you could always find a wide range of music playing at any time. I started writing in the 8th grade. Nothing serious though. It wasn't until I recorded my first track in 2004 that i thought about being into music production. When I moved to the east coast, there was a chain of events that took place that somehow always had something to do with music. After my daughter was born, I had to figure out a way that i would be able to provide for her. It wasn't until I moved to Oklahoma in 07 that I realized that the music business was something I was determined to be in. I met a lot of good people and learned from all of them; how to make beats, how to record and mix and master tracks. I'm still learning everyday, but that move put it into perspective for me.

Q. So you make beats too? Who or what are your influences? What keeps you motivated?

A.
There are so many people that influence me. My favorite artist is Tupac. Maybe it's just me but his music was something that got me through a lot of my tough times. I think that good music is something that you could feel, something that has a lasting impression on you. Pac has a song damn near for any occasion. That's really what I want to accomplish with my music; let it be something that people can relate to. Everything I speak about is either happening to me or someone around me and I want people to be able to listen to it and at the same time get a feel for who I am and where I've been. Life keeps me motivated. The struggle that so many of us go through. I feel music is the best way to relieve some of those pressures of life. Not only have I learned a lot about myself through my own music, I have been able to help others in the same positions that I've been in. Not only are you having fun with it, you're also learning at the same time.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish with your music?

A.
"Nowadays I see its all about diamonds," that's where I feel the game has gone as a whole. People are falling into this false sense of reality. Everybody wants to be a hustler like Jeezy. Riding around in expensive whips and flashing money around. What I want to accomplish with my music is simple. Teach people to be themselves. You don't have to be a hustler to have money. Be yourself, stay true to who you are and what you know. Stick to it. Instead of telling our youth to go out and sell drugs and be a thug, teach them like the O.G.'s used to teach us. Stay in school, knowledge is power. With my music I show them every angle of life; instead of acting out what you see on T.V. there are other ways to get what you want out of life. We have a black president. That means anything is possible with determination, patience, and discipline. We can do anything we set our minds to.

Q. Teaching the youth, thats something that a lot of artist forget to do. With that being said where do you see yourself in the future.

A.
There's actually a lot in store for the future. Actually working on finishing my album Self Made which will be in stores this summer. Also working on a DVD project for unsigned artists. Getting my own label set up so I can provide the youth with even more opportunities to change the world. All I can really say is that I'm working on a lot of different things right now, even a movie script. So stay tuned and you might see ya boi on the big screen.

Q. I see you have a lot of things in store for the world. I want to thank you and also the readers for taking a little of their time to get more in depth with you. Before we leave, Stretch is there anything else you would like your readers to know?

A.
Basically I just want to thank all my family and fans for the love and support. None of this would be possible without you. Really, just be yourself. People tend to get into trouble when they try to do things that are not them. Anything is possible when you put your mind to it. Be your own person and stay focused and guaranteed you'll be where ever you want to be.
