In a time when the term alternative/rock is banded about for easy access to credibility, Talula are true exponents of this sound and ideal for 2007 - one which ensures everything centres around a constant musical (r)evolution. Formed by singer/guitarist Jake in 2001, Talula are a tight, accomplished unit consisting of: Jake Hitchcock - Vocals/Guitar Jamie Kearns - Bass/Vocals Alex Maynard - Drums So far, so what then? But at some point Talula got good. Dead good. Their debut e.p. "The Battle & The Beauty" was unleashed in September 2004 by Manager Jonathan Taylor-Horne/Illicit Music Management on their self funded Triple X Recordings. More importantly they've played show after show, refining their taut, emotionally charged sound culminating alongside fellow Devonian compatriots Muse in front of a 9000 capacity crowd at Exeter's Westpoint Arena and later at Birmingham's NEC Arena in November 2006 to a sold out 20,000 audience. With all three members dedicated to the cause and Jake's heart-achingly powerful lyrics painting pictures of both despair and elation, betrayal and celebration, people have started to sit up and take notice. And its from the underground that Talula shall rise to dizzier heights. The band's new e.p. "Ripped Up and Violent", produced by Paul Reeve (Muse/Razorlight/Supergrass) marks the start of something beautiful, amazing; an altogether different place and time. An uplifting, raucous cacophony of overdriven guitars, thunderous bass lines, and a whip crack snare, the e.p. is a reflection of the highs and lows of the world in which we live. "Ripped Up and Violent" reaches new depths and an honesty in Jake's lyrics which in turn add new dimensions to the band's already innovative and diverse arrangements. With their triple-edged sound, the trio are surely set to soundtrack the lives of those whose paths they cross.
