About Band
Trip Effect is a blended mixture of raw acoustic rock combined with technical theory based playing, producing powerful music saturated with emotion and true heart. The sound this power trio produces redefines any and all parameters outlining what acoustic music can be and how it should be utilized. Their purpose is to put older notions pertaining to "acoustic rock" into a shredder, while demonstrating that acoustic music can throw down just as hard as anything else. Trip Effect’s music is the direct result of taking various underlying concepts, stemming from many genres of music, and applying those principles, creating songs within the framework of a hard, driving, yet soulful, "unplugged" sound. Trip Effect’s number one item on their agenda is to create music that not only pushes the boundaries, but breaks them. They have taken an instrument and sound, normally used for softer songs and ballads exclusively, and shown beyond any reasonable doubt that the "unplugged" sound has infinite room to rock out in a truly unprecedented way. The ideas and songs continue to evolve and take new life, resulting in a metamorphosis of music that leaves a defined imprint on the soul of anyone within audible range.
Trip Effect was originally going to be a casual little recording project. In fact, the plan was to record a few songs to simply help guitarist/singer Derek Carley form a band in LA, where he had planned on going to school. As the songs began to take life and develop, it grew increasingly obvious that something special was happening. It was quickly realized that Derek wouldn't be heading to LA. More importantly, they realized, perhaps, the casual recording project needed to be assessed in a different light. After a few weeks it was fully realized that this new acoustic music Derek had started to write in early 2011 was definitely in sincere need of being heard by true music lovers everywhere. A month later, by the end of August 2011, a new 3 member band called Trip Effect, with an E.P. titled "Second Life," had been wrenched forth into existence.

Derek’s sound is the result of mixing, meshing and blending raw elemental playing, with precision ideas; encompassing a full spectral range, delivering solid profound musical expression. A Bachelor’s degree in music from The University of Colorado at Denver was acquired and utilized along way. It didn't hurt to have innumerable opportunities to play with countless musicians of a high caliber either. His experience has changed his style infinitely. The drumming of Eric Colvin anchors the band like a 10 ton weight, providing the perfect foundation upon which to build the sound. His playing is solid no matter how you spin it. His technical ability constantly keeps the listener on their toes, wondering what will come next. All the while his flow and tightness keeps the listener from being out of balance, not to mention the groove to his style. Colvin gives Trip Effect that valuable ingredient needed for enormity of sound. Carley and Colvin were introduced to each other while auditioning for another band back in 2003. Although, that particular project didn’t lead to anything special musically, a solid friendship was established. It was over the next few years that their friendship grew, as well as their desire to play together. They continued to jam off and on, which has developed an immense feel for each others' playing styles almost unparalleled. Eventually, their two very unique styles were able to mesh together, through this continuous process, producing a sound not yet realized by the music industry, artists and fans alike. Eric’s friend Aaron was brought on board to fill the missing bass slot and the lineup was then set. Aaron brings to the table an entirely different perspective and sound, with his solid bass lines. He adds yet another layer of depth to an already large sound. Aaron, being a Rockford, Illinois native, has been playing guitar for more than half his life and was more than ready to dedicate every bit of his energy to the group, after hearing only four of Derek's songs. Aaron started learning guitar at a young age and has since picked up keyboard and bass. It just so happened he had gotten his first bass only a few months before the project began. With a background in theory, recording, and having played many solo acoustic shows, the idea of an acoustically centered band greatly intrigued him. Trip Effect is essentially in the infancy of its lifespan. In the future, the band will continue to evolve, create, write, and administer the driving messages saturating the essence of the music it plays. This is the Trip Effect...
