U SAY USA is a four-piece psychedelic pop rock outfit with eight feet firmly planted in the widely publicized counter-cultural scene of Bushwick, Brooklyn. “This could have been Greenwich Village 60 years ago, or SoHo 30 years ago, or the East Village in the 1990s.” - New York Times Known for their raw, energetic live performances and artistic approach to songwriting, U SAY USA formed in the now infamous McKibbin Street Lofts in early 2009. They have since cultivated a passionate following in and around New York City through memorable shows and a slew of popular self released demos and music videos. Musically, U SAY USA draws from an endless pool of influences. But their most predominant quirks include instantly catchy (yet complex) pop melodies, Hendrix-style guitar lyricism, a leaning towards 1960's rock & roll traditions (or lack thereof), and poetic, heartfelt storytelling: "Lead singer Steve Nelson showcases an Americana that speaks as much of the inner city as of open highways, as much of existential crisis as wasted youth." BushwickBK.com In just under a year, U SAY USA have played many notable venues in New York City, including: Kenny's Castaways, The Delancey, Spike Hill, Bar Matchless, The Trash Bar, and many more including venues in Connecticut, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. U SAY USA finished production on their first professionally recorded five song album, "The Greatest Recession (I've Ever Been To)" in October, 2010.
