VAMPYROUSS were formed a decade ago in 2002 by KAZRAINE RUTHVEN MAARS and have been through many line-up changes in that time with their sound transforming from it's cliche "bedroom black metal" inception through an awkward "electro-ambient" keyboard and vocals demo stage to the somewhat quirky "orchestral synth rock" era which introduced longtime members REJON MUNCHAUSEN and ROBERT ROTHSCHILD ROCHELLE. This is the period that shaped the bands sound the most, as shown in their first single "MY GOTHIC HEART" released in 2006. After years of toiling in the studio and occasionally gigging the band finally settled down to release their debut album "A DARK DESIRE" via CASKET MUSIC in 2009. This was an epic undertaking, creating a compact yet orchestrally flurished concept album which was praised for it's production despite the fact it's budget was miniscule to non-existant! During this time the band started to play live more frequently to promote the album but also took on a darker more "metallic" sound with added guitar distortion and million-miles-a-minute-drumming, yet along the way felt they were somehow losing the bands unique counter-metal direction which had been dominant for most of their history... After a hiatus throughout most of 2010 and a huge line-up change the band returned to their synth-roots with 2011's fresh new single "R.I.P." which has given the band and their sound a whole new lease of life! The single kept the eclectic sound the band is known for, yet with a mature, well produced and deliberate sound and a focused direction missing from a lot of their past work. VAMPYROUSS are now writing and rehearsing to play live again in the near future as well as record their sophomore album which promises to be more direct and engaging with the usual darkly humourous undertones and a fresh perspective on the "Dark" side of life...
