In mid 2005 drummer Chris Allyn and guitarist Paul James started writing and playing music together in Orlando, Florida.  Jason Nelms soon joined the jam sessions on bass and Three Deep was formed.  In less than a year Three Deep became regular performers at Orlando's Underground Bluz club.      In October 2006 Paul James moved to Austin, TX in search of a more vibrant live music scene, with Chris to follow in early 2007.  The band name was changed to Violet is Blue to coincide with the fresh start in Austin and they began playing shows as a unique duo of guitar/vocals and percussion.  However, there was still a sonic void remaining since bassist Nelms was unable to make the cross country move.  From the very start the music was mood based and organic, so finding a new bass player to fit that stylistic approach proved difficult.       Auditions and tryouts ensued but no connection was made. Finally, as a last ditch effort, Chris placed an ad on Craig's list and only one response seemed worth looking into.  Upon meeting bass player Marcus Rendon over pizza and beer at the famous Austin punk pizza joint, The Parlor, Chris and Paul knew the lineup was complete and rehearsals began.  The trio started work on songs already written such as "Beacon" and "Hindsight" and completed their first new song as a trio "Home". They began working on a set list and were set to start booking gigs. The name of the band changed to FLOW at this time.  Unfortunatley, as often happens with many new bands, there were bills that needed to be paid, so the band went on hiatus for several months while the band members focused on their day jobs. Hope diminished as talk of reforming, much less "jamming" drifted slowly away.      Paul and Marcus continued to play with other singer-songwriters as session players.  Marcus called on Paul to help back up performers such as Brooklyn Barbieri for some quick, one-off gigs for quick pay playing mostly country, pop, and R&B covers.
Singer/Songwriter Daniel Moore called upon Marcus to play bass.  Paul's name came up when Moore was thinking of adding a lead guitarist. Paul jumped at the idea and came aboard.        One night Moore and company found themselves with a gig in a few days and no drummer.  Chris was called to fill the bill and as a whim during one of the rehearsals they performed an impromptu unrehearsed version of "Beacon".  It was this moment that Paul and Marcus knew the ultimate goal was to revive the band.
Several months passed with no gigs with Moore.  Marcus and Moore parted ways in March of 2008. Frustrated with walking the streets of SXSW and not playing any gigs, Marcus called on Paul to start up the band once again.  Naturally, Chris was asked to join but he had found a new passion in extreme mountain biking and gave his blessings to the band knowing his legacy would continue in the songs he had co-written.       Paul and Marcus kept jamming out the songs which felt more vibrant than before. They settled on Violet Is Blue as the name and went out searching for a replacement drummmer.     In immediate fashion Marc placed an ad on, where else, Craig's list and got an instant response from Robert "Bubba" Boyd.  During the first rehearsal session, song after song, Bubba was rising to the challenge and following every nuance and dynamic change that was thrown his way. A complete one-hour set list was ready in four rehearsals and the boys declared that they would be gigging by June.  The trio was now complete and as they declared, the month of June was booked. They played Honky Tonks, historic 6th Street & Red River districts.
A new sound, attitude and style that has metamorphosized  Violet Is Blue to what it is today.  A sound that transcends the here and now and rides the ebb and flow of emotions and beliefs.
