About Band

Waterblack is an alternative rock band formed in 1998 in Limassol, Cyprus. The band was founded by childhood friends Andreas Economides (Vocals, Guitar) and Chris Charalambides (Keyboards). They relocated to London in 2000 and while studying at university, recorded their EP Humble Parades in 2001. Waterblack began performing their own material in the UK and Cyprus, recruiting Marcos Economides (Drums), Xenios Ioannou (Guitar) and Byron Athinodorou (Bass). In 2007, the band released their first album called Orem and in the same year the album received awards from garageband.com and featured on MTV Ourstage. Airplay followed in Greece and Cyprus along with television appearances on the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporationís main channel. Andreas began playing drums at the age of 13 and by 16 he had taught himself to play guitar. He performed as a drummer during his school years and was the first drummer of Waterblack. As his voice and song-writing skills developed he took over as lead vocalist of Waterblack in 2001 and has also written songs for other artists. Chris taught himself piano by the age of 10 and began composing and arranging his own works. He studied sound engineering in London and is the co-writer and arranger of Waterblack's music. Chris has arranged and produced songs for many artists, including the winning Cyprus Eurovision song 'Firefly' where he also featured as one of the backing vocalists in the Moscow Final in 2009. Marcos began playing the drums at age 11. He was initially self-taught and later trained with a jazz teacher. In 2006, he attended DrumTech in London and was one of the few chosen to perform in Londonís Shepherds Bush Empire. Marcos has also has recorded as a session drummer for a variety of artists. Xenios started playing guitar at aged 12 and formed his first band at the age of 16. It was then that his passion for recording and producing also began to develop so he went on to study Music Production and Sound Engineering in SAE Sydney. Upon graduation he moved to New York where he worked in one of the city's leading recording houses, Skyline Studios. He then moved back to Cyprus to work at Soundscape Studios and joined Waterblack in 2012. Byron was introduced to guitar at the age of 8 and at 14 he began studying music theory and bass. As a bassist he performed at various events and competitions during his school years, while also playing euphonium and trombone. After school, Byron studied music composition at university in Greece and later at York University in the UK.
