The name, We Are Star 69 (WAS69), was born from a popular North American telephone code that provides the phone number that last called but chose not to leave a message. WAS69 was lead singer, Will Enrique's way of opening up a medium to express the human nature of being paranoid (and offering an improvement on the possible band name of We Are Paranoid).

 

The three band members, Will Enrique, Peter X and Fred Bouchard, are all experienced in the music industry, each bringing their own skills to the table to ensure the success of this project.

Individually, they are:

Will Enrique: Lead vocals/guitars

His upbringing places him everywhere, but nowhere.
Born in South America , raised in North America and having lived most of his adult life in Europe , the only constant thing in his life has been music, a refuge like no other. Will’s songs are a reflection of his many travels and the people who have played essential parts in his life. His obsessive thirst for melody has led him to effortlessly become a highly skilled performer and talented guitar player. He worked as a lighting tech on European tours with a vast array of musical acts and has always felt the calling of the stage. Musically weaned on the Beatles, the Stones and Elvis by his ex-teenybopper mum, it is safe to say that Will likes his rock'n'roll. In recent years however, Will has been known to frequent the folk scene in search of a softer sound to beautify and enhance his pop sensibilities.

Peter X: Bass

The last time a 4-stringed instrument sounded like a 6 and yet so right in pop music, must have been when a guy named Paul from Liverpool did it back in the 60’s. Peter has been involved in a variety of musical outfits before teaming up with Will again to form We Are Star 69. Theirs is a boyhood friendship nurtured by a shared love for music whilst searching for that perfect hook. Peter is a musician’s musician. Reading the minds of other musicians is second nature to the Montreal native. Working as a live sound engineer has also kept him alert and in tune with his contemporaries.

Fred Bouchard: Drums

He’s a songwriter’s drummer, a rock drummer, and a perfectionist. Fred challenges the stigma that drummers often carry with them and his skill to hold down the fort while simultaneously growing with the momentum of a song and adding to its climax is what completes this trinity of sound. Fred can often be found within the confines of a recording studio either hitting the skins as a session man or behind a multi-track soundboard as a studio engineer. His enthusiasm for getting the songs to rock is relentless.

Together, they are We Are Star 69.

How did it all begin?
It was the day before Valentine's Day 2006 when Will, having returned to his home city, met with the other two lads to play a few tunes and have an Indian supper on Jean-Talon street west, Montreal . Supper was interrupted when someone said, “What if we start a band? Pass the mango chutney please.” Individually, all three have found a career in music. Together, all three have found what music historians simply call chemistry. The right amount of everything and lots of it!
