Yung King born DeMarcus Whittenburg on Jan. 4 1980 & was raised in North Carolina in a town called Troutman nicknamed the 3 Stop Light City. Yung King wa the youngest of 3 kids. As a child he always had a passion for music. Growing up listening to 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Eric B. & Rakim, & a host of other artist. He attended South Iredell High School where he accelled in sports but those dreams was derailed due to his runs with the law. After he graduated from high school Yung King was ingulfed by the street life of a trapstar. While running the streets he seen alot & done even more. Seeing some of his closest friends & peers get lock down for years for making the same moves he was making. In knowing this he turned toward his music for a way out. In 2003 he scouted local talent in the hood to start his own label called GRIP TIGHT RECORDS. The first release was a undergroud mixtape just to get the streets buzzing about what GRIP TIGHT was all about & to get them ready for the first album off of GTR. When the time came for the first release titled "THE TAKEOVER". When album hit the streets it was a instant success selling over 1000 units in just 2 days of its release. While working on the second release labels began to take notice but due to disagreements & egos within the label a agreement with other labels were never met. After reevaluating everything he cleared GTR's roster & started fresh with a more loyal team. Aquiring new artist rappers & singers along with new producers GTR was back. Mixtape after mixtape he clawed his  way back to the forefront. Releasing the mixtape "THE HATERS EDITION" which really got the streets back on its ear. It was filled with songs from Yung King along with his new artist. Setting a release date for Yung King's solo debut he released another mixtape first called "THE WIRE" named after HBO's hit show based on life in the streets dealing drugs. A life from which he owed so much to but couldn't go back to. This mixtape included songs from all shapes of life. The streets, the clubs, even love. All this was to prepared them for his debut album called "SWAG OVERLOAD". From top to bottom this album is well rounded with tracks for the streets & club. After this release this not only solitified GTR but Yung King as a solo artist. Now he only can see the top. So for Yung King the sky is the limit.
